South Florida, which had the top three finishers, beat the Hokies 28-43. Tech senior Joe Edwards finished fourth and teammate George Probst was fifth.

In Radford, Radford University senior Merrill Hausenfluck won the individual title at the Big South Conference men's championships.
Hausenfluck beat Charleston Southern's Patrick Van Boden by seven seconds on the five-mile course. The Highlanders finished fourth in the team standings behind first-place Coastal Carolina.
In Covington, Casey Motley and Jason Herron finished among the top five as Salem won the boys' Region III title by 15 points over Bassett.
Motley finished second on the 3.1-mile course, five seconds behind Jefferson Forest's Todd Weimer. Herron finished fifth.
Brookville edged Alleghany 80-82 for the girls' title. Laurel Park's Catrese Hairston ran a winning time of 19 minutes, 11 seconds.
In Crockett Springs, Giles edged George Wythe 76-77 to win the Region C boys' title. Rickie Jennings led Giles with a fifth-place finish. Defending Group A champion Matthew Repass of Patrick Henry-Glade Spring edged George Wythe's Jason Alexander by three seconds to win on the 3.2-mile course.
Glenvar's Trish Nervo, the 1992 Group A champion, won the girls' title by more than 90 seconds, bettering the course record she set last year by almost a minute.
