In Philadelphia, Virginia Tech's Jen Dinello and Jennifer Lampert won preliminary singles matches at the ITA Individual Regional tennis tournament. Dinello and Cathy Dixon won a preliminary doubles match. Play in the tournament, which includes the top 96 players in the Eastern Region, ends Tuesday.
Top-seeded North Cross won all three of its matches to claim the Blue Ridge Conference volleyball tournament championship.
The Raiders (18-2) beat Roanoke Valley Christian 15-5, 13-15, 15-4 in the first round, then knocked Lynchburg Christian out of the winners' bracket 15-9, 15-9. North Cross met Lynchburg Christian again in the championship match, winning 15-7, 15-10.
Heather Perry led the Raiders with 29 assists and Armistead Lemon had 21 kills. Perry and Lemon were joined on the all-tournament team by teammate Ellen Brenner and Roanoke Valley Christian's Marcie Huffman.
In Blacksburg, four Blacksburg players scored in double figures, and the Indians soared past Park View-Sterling 65-44 in girls' high school basketball.
