The Maroons, seeded first, beat second-seeded Virginia Wesleyan 3-2 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference title game Saturday at Alumni Field in Salem.
Roanoke (18-3) took a 2-0 lead 24 minutes into the game on goals by Abe Cortez and Todd Hallauer. Wesleyan (15-3-2) cut the Maroons' lead to a goal early in the second half off a Michael Brady score, but Roanoke went up 3-1 two minutes later when Charley Butcher scored.
Dustin Fonder, who set the school record for goals in a season this year for Roanoke, had two assists.
It was the Maroons' first ODAC title since 1988 and ended Wesleyan's streak of three conference championships.
The women's ODAC championship game between top-seeded Randolph Macon and second-seeded Roanoke was postponed Saturday because of rain. The date and time of that game had yet to be determined Saturday night.
