OBIT PERKINS, GEORGE, ("POP")
PERKINS, George, ("Pop"), 97, of Roanoke, died Friday, October 29, 1993, in
a local hospital. He was a veteran of World War I and was preceded in death by
his wife, Gertrude Watkins Perkins and a daughter, Thelma L. Perkins.
Surviving are four daughters, Mildred S. Bess and Margaret Bailey, both of
Roanoke, Marie Herzog, St. Louis, Miss. and Dorothy ("Dot") Crews, Roanoke;
seven sons, Paul L. Perkins, Roanoke, Herman P. Perkins, Franklin County,
Billy G. Perkins, Dewey L. Perkins, both of Roanoke, Roy E. Perkins, Idaho,
James J. ("Jackie") Perkins, Roanoke, Larry G. Perkins, Calloway; 35
grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday at Oakey's Vinton Chapel by
the Rev. George E. Stevenson. Interment will follow in Cedar Lawn Memorial
Park. The family will receive friends 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at
Oakey's Vinton.
