HOW TO RECOGNIZE A CREDIT CRUNCH

According to Bob Hammond's "Life After Debt" (Career Press, $14.95), these are some of the warning signs of credit trouble:

Using credit cards for things you usually would buy with cash.

Paying only the minimum payments on credit cards.

Using credit card cash advances to pay for living expenses.

What can you do?

"The biggest thing," says Hammond, "is not to be dependent on credit card spending."

Stop using the credit cards, put them in a safe place or, better yet, cut them up.
