OBIT HOPKINS, WESSIE M.

HOPKINS, Wessie M., 73, of Box 148, Rural Retreat, formerly of #9 Gary, W. Va., died Sunday, October 31, 1993 at the home of her daughter, Shirley Hooker, in Charleston, W. Va. Born December 3, 1919 in Jenkinjones, W. Va., she was a daughter of the late Ervin and Johanna Carey Mitchell. Mrs. Hopkins was a thirteen year resident of Rural Retreat and was formerly employed by Union Supply, Gary, W. Va., as a clerk. She was a graduate of Gary High School and a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Rural Retreat and was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Franklin Hopkins Sr. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Mrs. William D. (Shirley Ann) Hooker III, of Charleston, W. Va., Mrs. Richard J. (Carolyn Sue) Shuford, of Weaverville, N.C.; a son, Thomas Franklin Hopkins Jr. of Richmond, Va.; one sister, Gertrude Noonchester, of Coeburn, Va.; brother, Ernest Mitchell of Ivanhoe, Va.; six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. Funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. Tuesday at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell, W. Va., with the Rev. Buford Hankins officiating. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum in Bluewell. The family will receive friends at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell, Tuesday, between the hours of 1 to 3 p.m. Pallbearers will be Mark and Todd Hooker, Robert Burk, Billy Hopkins, Dale Mitchell and Kenneth Adkinson.
