HOW IT AFFECTS THE ROANOKE AREA

At Roanoke Regional Airport, American Airlines' commuter service, American Eagle, is operated by Flagship Airlines.

Flagship, based in Nashville, Tenn., is a subsidiary of AMR Corp. of Dallas, the holding company that also owns American Airlines.

Flight attendants for Flagship are not affected by the contract imposed Monday by American on its flight attendants.

Flagship, coincidentally, is involved in contract negotiations with the Association of Professional Flight Attendants, the union representing the American flight attendants.

A contract offer by Flagship to its 425 union flight attendants was rejected in mid-October. Negotiations had been under way since November 1992. Both Flagship and the union are seeking the services of a federal mediator. No date has been set for the resumption of talks.
