ETC. SCHREMPF, MCKEY TRADE PLACES IN NBA DEAL

Andre Bovain has been suspended from the Clemson basketball team indefinitely after his arrest Monday on assault charges. Bovain was taken into custody by university police after a female companion filed a complaint with authorities, the university's athletic department announced. Three other players involved in an unrelated altercation Oct. 23 also were suspended. Sharone Wright and Lou Richie will miss the Tigers' first exhibition game Nov. 18 against USA Verich. Devin Gray was suspended for two exhibition games and a regular-season game.

After yet another injury to a key player, the Golden State Warriors signed free-agent swingman Gerald Glass to a one-year contract. The Warriors added the 6-foot-6 swingman after learning All-Star forward Chris Mullin would miss about six weeks after surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right hand.

Benoit Benjamin, acquired by the New Jersey Nets in the off-season, will be sidelined for about two weeks of the NBA season because of a urinary tract infection. Nets coach Chuck Daly said 7-2 Dwayne Schintzius will replace Benjamin, with Rick Mahorn as the backup.

Captain Ray Bourque and the the Boston Bruins agreed to a five-year contract, ending months of negotiations. Terms were not announced, but the total package reportedly was worth more than $12 million.

Ithaca's Jim Butterfield, one of the winningest coaches in college football, announced he will retire after 27 years at the Division III school. Under Butterfield's leadership, the Bombers have won three NCAA Division III championships. The 65-year-old coach has a career record of 205-70-1.
