VIETNAM WAR MONUMENT PUT IN PLACE

The Vietnam Women's Memorial was lifted into place Monday, a bronze statue of three Vietnam-era women and a wounded male soldier to be dedicated on Veterans Day.

Workers used a crane to move the monument off a truck and to its permanent location 300 feet southeast of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial - the wall of names visited by tens of thousands of people every year.

The new memorial honors the 11,500 military women who served in Vietnam, as well as the 265,000 women who were in uniform during the conflict. Veterans Day is Nov. 11. - Associated Press
