ELECTED SCHOOL BOARD APPROVED

4 of 5 precincts reporting.

Yes 1,792 (79 percent) No 467 (21 percent)

Floyd County voters overwhelmingly approved changing from an appointed to an elected School Board.

"It's because they wanted a voice in their government," said Gene Bishop, an organizer of the petition drive that put the issue on the ballot.

County voters get their first chance to vote for a member of the five-member school board in 1995.
