Because of Nelson County's 61-38 victory over Appomattox, Staunton River will have to win at Jefferson Forest or get an upset by Rustburg over Nelson County on Thursday to clinch the title outright.
Tanya Nelms had 23 to become only the third player in Staunton River history to score more than 300 points in a season. She has 308. Mitchell finished with 16 points, and Kim English added 10. Hurd chipped in 11 rebounds to become the first girl with more than 200 boards in a season for the Eagles (17-2 overall and in the district).
The Eagles have won more games than any team in any sport in school history. Brookville (11-8, 11-8) rallied from six points down with three minutes left to force the overtime.

CHRISTIANSBURG - The Indians built a 25-point halftime lead and cruised past the Blue Demons, clinching the New River District regular-season title.
Meredith Braine added 12 points for Blacksburg (19-1 overall).
Maureen Jackson led Christiansburg (9-10) with nine points.

RADFORD - Charlee Taylor scored 17 points as the Bobcats downed the Cavaliers in the New River District.
Radford (7-12, 3-2) held all Carroll County scorers in single digits. The Cavaliers are 9-9, 0-5.

NEW CASTLE - Chrissy Robertson scored 25 points and the Rockets held off the Fighting Blues in the Pioneer District.
Robertson hit 10 of 11 free throws as Craig County (9-9, 6-6) preserved the victory from the line. Bonnie Boardwine added 15 points for the Rockets.
Parry McCluer (5-12, 4-7) got double-figure scoring from four players, but the rest of the Fighting Blues were shut out. Stephanie Rhodes and Carrie Coleman had 11 points each, and Crystal Humphries and Misty Snider added 10 apiece.

AMHERST - Stephanie Wood and Erin Johannes combined for 18 points as the Lancers held off Liberty in a Seminole District defensive struggle.
Sue Cowlbeck had 11 for the Minettes (14-5, 14-5); Amherst County is 12-7 overall and in the district. \

Pearisburg -A big second quarter carried the Spartans (6-13, 6-11) past the Blue Devils (3-16, 3-14) to a Mountain Empire District victory.
Giles used full-court pressure, including several steals by forward Tomika Saunders, to outscore Grayson County 19-8 in the second quarter while taking a 31-17 lead. The teams played evenly in the second half, with each scoring 25 points, and Grayson County could not overcome Giles' first-half surge.
Saunders scored 14 points, made eight steals and grabbed 14 rebounds. Heather Wilburn also scored 14 points for Giles. Tia Stuart had 15 points and Catie Satterwhite added 10 for Grayson County.

ROCKY GAP - Kelly Ryan scored 16 points as the Shawnees (12-7 overall, 12-5 in the district) shut out the Eagles in the second quarter and then held off a fourth-quarter rally to win in the Mountain Empire District.
Nancy Tupper had a game-high 18 points for Rocky Gap (10-10, 9-8). \

BLAND - Narrows rallied after trailing in the first quarter to post a Mountain Empire District victory.
Melinda Fleeman was the top scorer for the Green Wave (10-9, 9-8) with 15 points, and Bland (0-19, 0-17) was led by Rachel French with 12. \
