FG LIFTS GALAX OVER NARROWS 15-13

Paul Orton kicked a 33-yard field goal with 52 seconds left as Galax upset Narrows 15-13 in a Mountain Empire District high school football game Friday night.

The Maroon Tide (3-6 overall, 3-4 district) took a 6-0 lead in the second quarter when Andy Ashworth passed 48 yards to John Herzog. The Green Wave came back with a 32-yard scoring pass from Michael Blankenship to Emory Turner.

Bobby Melton, who rushed for 53 yards on 13 carries, scored from 4 yards out in the third quarter to give Galax a 12-7 lead before Brett Mosley scored on a 1-yard run for Narrows (7-2, 5-2).

Blankenship led all rushers with 100 of the Green Wave's 131 yards. \

NEW CASTLE - Bobby Bonds ran for two touchdowns to spark the Eagles (4-5) to the non-district victory over the Rockets (0-9).

Quarterback Danny Dickerson rushed for 93 yards and Bonds 64 to lead the Auburn offense.

Craig County got two touchdowns from Johnny Crawford, including an 83-yard kickoff return on the final play of the third quarter. \
