NEW EATERIES OPENING IN PULASKI COUNTY

People who want to eat out in Pulaski County are getting more choices.

Among the latest are The Bonfire, a restaurant scheduled to open next to the Comfort Inn in Dublin in December, and a new drive-in restaurant on property along E. Main St. (Virginia 99) in Pulaski.

The drive-in, owned by Sonic Industries, will be right across the street from the recently opened Wendy's restaurant, in the building previously occupied by New River Valley Home Improvement. The home improvement operation is moving to 148 N. Madison Ave. in Pulaski.

Wendy's will also be opening a restaurant in Dublin in the next few months.

The new Bonfire restaurant at the Comfort Inn will be operated by Wayne and Freida Rainey who run a similar restaurant in Bristol, Tenn. About 40 people will be hired to work in their Dublin operation.

Sonic had been unsuccessful earlier this year in getting a rezoning that would have allowed the restaurant to be built on Memorial Drive next to a church. Pulaski Town Council denied the rezoning request after some residents objected.

The company had continued seeking a restaurant site in Pulaski since then.

On East Main Street in downtown Pulaski, both the Renaissance and Sonny's restaurants have reopened in recent months at sites where previous dining facilities had closed. Christie Williams recently opened a cafe where the old Hercules Cafe used to be.
