OBIT-PHILLIPS, CORDOVA QUESENBERRY

PHILLIPS, Cordova Quesenberry, of Floyd, passed away Thursday, November 4, 1993, at Laurel Meadows Home. Born April 29, 1903, she was the daughter of James Levi and Amanda Goad Quesenberry. After rearing her children and seeing them safely on their own, she was employed at Floyd Garment Company until retirement at age 67. She was preceded in death by an infant son; an 11-year-old daughter, Clarah Vae, and her beloved husband, William Lewis Phillips, Deputy Sheriff of Floyd County, who died in 1948. Left to honor and cherish her memory are one son and daughter-in-law, William Morris and Freeda Phillips, Christiansburg; three daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Ruth and George Heafner, Norwood, N.C., Helen and Elwood Mabry, Cherryville, N.C., and Mamie and Earl Vest, Floyd; seven grandchildren, Michael, Steve, Terry and Jeff Phillips, Christiansburg, Rebecca Heafner Schlosser, Greensboro, N.C., Cathy Mabry Barrett and Douglas Mabry, Cherryville, N.C.; also surviving are nine great-grandchildren, Sara Beth, Brad, Adam, Casey, Corey and Laura Phillips, Christiansburg, Shawna Barrett, Cherryville, N.C., Drew and David Schlosser, Greensboro, N.C.; three stepgreat-grandchildren, Steve, Barry and Kevin Albert, Christiansburg; one brother, Norman Quesenberry, Willis; three sisters, Maretha Marshall, Willis, Nonnie Cox, Brookville, Ind., and Ethel Cox, Blacksburg. Extended family includes Frances Ratliff, Eunice Clemons and Corine Sowers to whom the family extends appreciation for their devoted friendship. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, November 7, 1993, at Indian Creek Primitive Baptist Church where she became a member at the age of 21. Officiating will be Elder Kenneth Hopkins and Elder Sidney Rakes. Interment will follow at Big Sand Cemetery, overlooking the farm where Will and Cordova lived following their marriage and where all their children were born. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, November 6, at Maberry Funeral Home, Floyd. Floral remembrances will be appreciated or memorials may be made to Laurel Meadows Home, Route 1, Box 181B, Laurel Fork, Virginia 24352, in memory of Cordova Phillips for the continuing love, care and support they so generously offer. No greater gift can one receive in life than a Mother who held steadfast and dutiful to her belief in God, family, love, honor and respect for others. "Well done Thy Good and Faithful Servant.
