OBIT-CROCKETT, WILLY MAE BROWNE
CROCKETT, Willy Mae Browne, 81, of Wytheville, died Thursday, November 4,
1993, at her residence. She was born in Jamestown, N.C., the daughter of the
late Walter E. and Molsie Lineberry Browne. She was preceded in death by her
husband, James E. Crockett Sr. and a son, James E. "Sonny" Crockett Jr. She
was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Church Women
Circle, where she served on various project committees. She was the past
Regent of Wilderness Road D.A.R. and a member of District Four Virginia
Regents. She served as treasurer of the Helen Trinkle Music Club for fifteen
years and was a sponsor of the Junior Music Club for several years. She was
active in the Junior Woman's Club, serving as secretary, program chairman and
vice-president. She was a member of Evansham Chapter, No. 97, Order of the
Eastern Star and in 1986, was honored as "Citizen of the Year" by the Chamber
of Commerce. She served as Chairman of the Republican Women for several terms.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Walter S. "Sam" and Arlene
Crockett; two daughters and sons-in-law, Anne B. and Dr. Carl Stark, all of
Wytheville; Susan E. and Dan Buckner, Wichita, Kansas; three sisters, Ruth
Ridge, Hillsville, Lucille Browne, Greensboro, N.C., Katherine Cranford,
Elkin, N.C.; five grandchildren, Angel Carney, Suzan C. Aker, James E. "Jack"
Crockett Illinois, James D. "Jay" Crockett and Jessica Turner; three
great-grandchildren, Kate and Sarah Carney and Laura Aker. Funeral services
will be held Sunday, November 7, 1993, at 2 p.m. at the Holy Trinity Luthern
Church, with the Rev. Roger Kluttz officiating. Interment will follow in St.
John's Lutheran Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Barnett
Funeral Home from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, with Evansham Chapter No. 97, Order
of the Eastern Star conducting a memorial service at 8:30 p.m. Friends may
call at the residence at any time. Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville is in
charge of the arrangements.
