6 petitions filed in Bankruptcy Court

Six business petitions have been filed in U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Virginia in Roanoke:

Backstreets Inc., a Blacksburg restaurant, filed for reorganization and protection from creditors. The restaurant estimated both assets and liabilities at less than $50,000.

Stephen C. Andrews Jr. of Blacksburg, president of Backstreets Inc., filed for liquidation, reporting assets of $637,225 and liabilities of $1,013,277. Among his assets was a half-interest in properties owned by Restaurant Properties Association.

Carson W. Carter of Sierra Drive, owner of a real estate investment company on Airport Road, filed for liquidation, listing assets of $13,302 and liabilities of $627,147.

Joseph R. Van Dyke and Pauletta M. Van Dyke of Tazewell filed for liquidation, estimating both assets and liabilities at less than $50,000. They operate a bed and breakfast.

Two couples - Gregory and Debra Anders and Timothy and Leigh Anne Anders - of Route 1, Raven, filed separate petitions for liquidation. Gregory and Timothy Anders said they are doing business as Sherry Lynn Coal Co. Gregory Anders also trades as Double A&A Coal Co. - Staff report

\ Federal-Mogul Corp., Southfield, Mich.-based operator of an engine bearings plant in Blacksburg, said Friday it will close its Lafayette, Tenn., fuel systems plant as part of a previously announced consolidation of its Lighting and Electrical Division and Fuel Systems Division. About 400 employees in Lafayette will lose jobs.

\ Penn Virginia Corp., Philadelphia owner of coal deposits in Southwest Virginia, said Friday it has completed the sale of its wholly owned subsidiary, Tenn Luttrell Co., for $24.15 million in cash to Global Stone Corp. of Canada. Tenn Luttrell is a Knoxville, Tenn., producer of high-calcium lime and limestone products.

\ Blue Ridge Parkway traffic rose 2.6 percent in October, the scenic highway reported. The parkway's administrative office in Asheville, N.C., said 2,596,010 motorists used the road last month, up 65,652 from a year earlier. Of the total, 986,020 used the 217-mile Virginia portion, 1.4 percent more than in October 1992. Another 1.6 million vehicles, or 3.4 percent more than a year earlier, drove the 252-mile North Carolina section.
