The adult was being held at the Wythe County jail, but his name was not released Saturday night. The juvenile was taken to a detention center.
The chase started in Wytheville about 5:30 a.m. when town officers spotted a juvenile for whom the county had an arrest warrant.
The juvenile and a man were in a sport-utility vehicle that sped up when the officers tried to pull it over. The ensuing chase went out of town, over Sand Mountain, through Piney and onto Virginia 642 before the fleeing vehicle wrecked in a ditch.
Several shots were fired at pursuing town, county and state vehicles. A town unit was hit several times, but nobody was hurt.
After the wreck, the youth and the man fled on foot. At least one of them exchanged shots with a county deputy.
One of the occupants surrendered, and the other was taken into custody about 8:12 a.m. A .30-.30 rifle was recovered.
