GILES DROPS GRAYSON COUNTY

Heather Wilburn scored 20 points and had seven steals as Giles whipped Grayson County 56-36 on Saturday in the preliminary round of the Mountain Empire girls' basketball tournament.

Giles (7-14 overall, 7-12 in the district), seeded eighth in the tournament, held a 12-2 lead after one quarter and outscored ninth-seeded Grayson County (3-18, 3-16) in every period.

The Spartans travel to Fort Chiswell High School to play top-seeded Floyd County at 6:30 p.m. Monday. The Buffaloes beat Giles by 52 and 44 points in the teams' two regular-season meetings. - Staff report\
