Street program has started a fund-raising campaign for money needed to help qualify for the program.
Main Street communities in the area have included Galax, Radford and neighboring Pulaski which has seen much success in the past year in filling its untenanted buildings with new business.
Downtown Wytheville Inc. is also seeking $3,000 in start-up funds from Wytheville Town Council. The request has gone to the town's Budget and Finance Committee.
The main benefit of belonging to the Main Street program is having access to its experts in various areas of business development. But, to qualify for consideration, a community first must have money to hire a Main Street program director and meet other requirements.
