FIRST MISS CAMBODIA IN 2 DECADES CROWNED

How does a country show the world it's recovering from two decades of war? Cambodia's newly elected government decided to reinstate a national beauty pageant.

Phath Sreimom, an 18-year-old representing the southeastern province of Kandal, was named Miss Cambodia 1993 over 17 other contestants on Sunday.

She smiled but said nothing as the wife of the first prime minister placed an elaborate golden crown on her head.

Phath wins about $500, a Honda motorcycle, a round-trip ticket to Paris, and several meals at the country's premier hotel. - Associated Press
