OBIT-BLOKKER, MILDRED PAYNE
BLOKKER, Mildred Payne, 73, of Blacksburg, died Saturday, November 6, 1993,
at her home. Her career was spent with the Virginia Tech Extension Service as
a Home Economist and Program Leader. She was a member of the Extension
Honorary Fraternity, Epsilon Sigma Phi, for which she served as National
Executive Secretary and Treasurer, and was a life member. She was also a
member of the Blacksburg United Methodist Church and a life member of the
United Methodist Women. She also served as a life member of Phi Kappa Phi and
the Virginia Federation of Garden Clubs. She was preceded in death by her
first husband, Reubin A. Payne and her parents, Joe and Olive Aigner.
Surviving are her husband, John W. (Bill) Blokker; two sons, Reubin Payne Jr.,
Atlanta, Ga. and Norman Payne, Lynchburg; two daughters, Marilyn Hingers,
Columbia, Md. and Patty Scott, Wirtz, Va.; a daughter-in-law, Freda O. Payne,
Lynchburg; two stepsons, William Blokker Jr., Everett, Wash. and Carl Blokker,
Rochester, N.Y.; one sister, June Megill, Raleigh, N.C.; three grandsons; two
granddaughters; two stepgrandsons. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m.
Tuesday, November 9, at Blacksburg United Methodist Church, with the Rev.
Herbert Hobbs officiating. Interment will follow at 4 p.m. in Washington
Memorial Park, Richmond. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be
made to the Blacksburg United Methodist Church (P.O. Box 931, Blacksburg, Va.,
24063), or the American Cancer Society (118-B North Franklin St.,
Christiansburg, Va., 24073), or the Virginia Tech Alumni Association (c/o
Alumni Hall, CEC, Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, Va., 24061). The family will
receive friends Monday, from 7 to 9 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home.
