The Golden Eagles advance to meet the winner of tonight's game between William Campbell and Amherst County. That semifinal will be played at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Golden Eagles' gym.
Altavista, which trailed 32-19 at halftime, stayed in the game by hitting seven 3-pointers. Shannon Shevitz led the way with four and finished with 14 points. Brooke Mitchell scored 22 points, hitting a pair of 3-pointers for the Colonels (6-16).
Hurd's rebound total is believed to be a school record.

\ Narrows 57, Auburn 51: In Fort Chiswell, Eagles star Angie Simpkins fouled out of a tie game midway through the fourth period and the Green Wave pulled away for the victory.
Melinda Fleeman led Narrows with 19 points and Suzanne Webb added 14.
Simpkins scored 21 points before committing her fifth foul, and Lori Lyons added 13 points for Auburn.
Narrows faces regular-season champion Floyd County at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in a semifinal.
\ Fort Chiswell 54, Galax 52, OT: In Fort Chiswell, Anesha Marshall scored the last two of her 23 points with four seconds left in overtime to give the Pioneers a victory over the Maroon Tide.
Tammy Cox, who finished with 20 points for Galax, hit a shot with five seconds left in regulation time to force the extra period. Jaclyn Dickens added 16 points for the Maroon Tide.
Fort Chiswell advances to meet Shawsville in a semifinal at 8 p.m. Thursday on the Pioneers' court. \
