KOREAN WAR VETERANS GET OWN LICENSE PLATE

Gov. Douglas Wilder unveiled a license plate Thursday for Virginia veterans of the Korean War and announced plans for three other veterans' plates.

"Wars have a critical impact on the fabric of our society," Wilder said in a news release. "Until recently, we haven't always done a good job of letting our veterans know how much we appreciate them.

"These plates are just another way Virginia can say `thank you' to our servicemen and -women," said Wilder, who is a Korean War veteran.

The Department of Motor Vehicles is developing the other plates for veterans of World War II, the Vietnam War and the Persian Gulf War. They should be available early next year.

The design includes a service medal and a two-letter abbreviation for each war as part of the plate number.
