OBIT RAKES, MELVIN LEWIS

RAKES, Melvin Lewis, 58, of Salem, died Thursday, November 11, 1993, at his home. He was a retired manager for the Vinton Scrap & Metal Company. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Sledd Rakes; two sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Suzanne Rakes of Salem, Kevin and Courtney Rakes of Mechanicsville; a granddaughter, Lyndsey Rakes; a cousin, Thomas A. Underwood of Salem; a number of other cousins; a mother-in-law, Kathleen Wade Sledd of Roanoke. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 13, 1993, 10 a.m. at the Lotz Salem Chapel with the Rev. Michael Slaughter officiating. Interment will be in Sherwood Memorial Park. Friends may call at Lotz Salem Chapel after noon on Friday.
