Hall and Calfee are part of a force that is being sent to Somalia in response to recent hostile actions against American and other military personnel there. The USS Guadalcanal had been operating in the Mediterranean when the redeployment was ordered.
Hall is the son of F. Spencer and Kathy L. Hall of Radford.
Calfee is the son of Carolyn S. Calfee of Dublin.

Marine Lance Cpl. WILLIAM V. SABO, son of Donald W. and Margie E. Sabo of Christiansburg, reported for duty with Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron, Marine Corps Air Station, Tustin, Calif. Before reporting for his new duties, Sabo graduated from Military Police School at Fort McClellan, Ala.
Marine 2nd Lt. BRYAN PRATT, son of Anna L. and Jerry K. Frazier Sr. of Narrows, reported for duty with the 2nd Assault Amphibian Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune, N.C.
Navy Petty Officer 1st Class GENE D. SHANNON, a 1977 graduate of Shawsville High School, is in port in Corfu, Greece, aboard the aircraft carrier USS America. The lead ship of the task force had previously visited Trieste, Italy.

Army Reserve Cadet JOEY L. VAUGHT, son of William G. and Brenda G. Vaught of Pembroke, received practical work in military leadership at the ROTC advanced camp at Fort Lewis in Tacoma, Wash.
Army Pfc. MICHAEL R. ARRINGTON, son of Phil Arrington of Christiansburg, graduated from the 10-week signal support specialist course at Fort Gordon in Augusta, Ga.

Army Pfc. SHAREMBA R. JOHNSON, daughter of Shirley J. and Richard L. Akers of Christiansburg, completed basic training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C.
Marine Pvt. DEMOND L. WESLEY, son of Arthur L. and Sandra B. Wesley of Radford, completed recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C.
