KNIGHTS TRIP HIGHLANDERS IN OVERTIME

Kara Mundy scored four of her nine points in overtime as James River beat Glenvar 50-42 in the championship of the Pioneer District girls' basketball tournament Saturday night.

Glenvar (17-5), the tournament's top seed, came back from a 25-12 halftime deficit to put the game into overtime with a big fourth quarter.

The Knights (15-8), who were seeded second, missed five free throws in bonus situations in the fourth quarter.

The Highlanders did not score in the extra period.

Camille Arbogast led James River with 11 points.

Glenvar's Marilea Hale led all scorers with 22 points.

Glenvar will play Thursday at 8:30 p.m. in the Group A Region C semifinals against the winner of Tuesday's game between Shawsville and Northwood. James River plays Mountain Empire District champion Floyd County on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the opening round.
