Tim McGuire won the 200-lap Late Model Stock feature race of the Thunder Road 500, overtaking his younger brother, Tony, on the 179th lap. Tim took home a $3,000 paycheck.
Tony was forced to drop out of the race when three of the five studs on his right front wheel broke.
After Tony dropped out, the real race was for second. Frankie Pennington earned that spot, riding out a barrage of rear-end bumps from Rick Sigmon, who finished third. Harvey Harrison and Ronnie Newman placed fourth and fifth, respectively.
The 200-lap race was split into two segments, and other divisions raced during the pit stop. Late Model Stocks were allowed to change two tires during the break.
The elder McGuire set a track record in qualifying (14.03 seconds), but started on the outside pole because Tony was exempt after winning the pole in a special qualifying session Nov. 5.
The McGuires finished the first 100 laps 1-2, with points champion Dudley Lawhorn third.
In other races Saturday night:
Jimmy Cox won his third consecutive Mini Stock event, overtaking points leader Steve Lynch early. Lynch was second and Tommy Burgess, making his only appearance of the season, finished third.
Jimmy Mullins won a caution-marred Street Stock race, with Dale Marlowe second. Leon Dalton finished third.
Mike Owens was the Pure Stock winner. Eric Bishop finished second and Leon Moles was third.
Gary Clifton took the Rookie race, ahead of Neal Amos (second) and Dickie Arnold (third).
Tommy English won the Any Car finale.
