OBIT CRAGHEAD, MCKINLEY
CRAGHEAD, McKinley, 97, of Roanoke, died Friday, November 12, 1993, in a
Salem hospital. Surviving are his wife of 75 years, Estelle Hayden Craghead,
and nieces and nephews. He was born October 23, 1896, in Bedford County. He
and his wife moved to Roanoke in 1927 and they were employed by the Michael
family. In 1936, they began their employment with the J. B. Fishburn family
and they continued to work for Fishburn descendants until their retirement in
1970. They lived on 8th Street, N.W. until they moved to Valley Care adult
home in April 1993. Mr. Craghead was a former chairman of the credit union and
head deacon of High Street Baptist Church for 22 years. He was a veteran of
World War I, having served in the Army Veterinary Corps in France. He was a
member of the Odd Fellows, Veterans of Foreign Wars and a Mason. The funeral
will be Monday at 11 a.m., at High Street Baptist Church, conducted by Dr.
Noel C. Taylor. Burial will be in New Zion Cemetery, Body Camp, Bedford
County. Visitation will be at Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home today from 7 to 8
p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to High Street Church or to New
Zion Church, care of Nathaniel Fowler, Rt. 4, Box 100-A, Bedford, Va., 24523.
The procession will assemble at the funeral home at 10 a.m.
