OBIT COLLINS, MR. VERGIL V. SR.
COLLINS, Mr. Vergil V. Sr., 67, of 6-B Hartwell Villa, Anderson, S.C.,
formerly of Roanoke, died Saturday, November 13, 1993, at Anderson Area
Medical Center. Mr. Collins was born in Willow Springs, Missouri on October 1,
1926, a son of the late R. V. Collins and Versa Collins. He was a retired
brakeman for the Norfolk-Southern Railway and a member of Shiloh Baptist
Church. Mr. Collins was also a Mason and a member of the Melrose Masonic Lodge
#0139 A.F. & A.M., Roanoke, Va. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in
the U.S. Navy. He was preceded in death by a son, Vergil V. ("Petie") Collins
and a sister, Velma Lee Collins. He is survived by his mother, Versa Collins
of West Plains, Miss.; wife, Bobbie Jo Rice Collins of the home; one daughter,
Laura Diane Collins Absher of Richmond, Va.; one stepson, Jerry Johnson of
Anderson, S.C.; one stepdaughter, Tammy Johnson Buchanan of Roanoke, Va.; one
brother, Sammy Collins of Pomona, Miss.; three sisters, Virginia Fines of
Cody, Wyo., Violet Drumwright of West Plains, Miss., Sue StClair of Roanoke,
Va.; 6 step-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, at
the McDougald Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. U. C. Neill officiating.
Interment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, with masonic rites. The
pallbearers will be fellow Masons. The family will receive friends at the
McDougald Funeral Home on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.
