CATHOLIC PASTOR CHARLES FERRY DIES

The Rev. Charles Edmund Ferry, who served Roman Catholic parishes across Virginia from 1945 until 1985, died Saturday at Our Lady of the Valley retirement home.

Ferry, 82, served congregations in Martinsburg, W.Va.; Richmond; Danville; and Arlington before taking on his last assignment as a pastor at Holy Cross in Lynchburg. He later served as a hospital chaplain and associate pastor in several parishes.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated by the Most Rev. Walter F. Sullivan, bishop of the Diocese of Richmond, Thursday at 11 a.m. at Lynchburg's Holy Cross church.
