OBIT JONES, DAVID SANDERS
JONES, David Sanders, 72, of Route 2, Austinville, died Sunday, November
14, 1993, at his home. He was a retired miner of the New Jersey Zinc Company
and a member of Grover King Post #1115, V. F. W. He joined the U. S. Navy,
April 4, 1940, and was honorably discharged April 22, 1946. He served as First
Class Petty Officer and Baker First Class. He served his country with
distinction during World War II. Among his military duties, he fought in the
Battle of the Coral Sea and Midway and was a survivor of the Aircraft Carrier,
Yorktown. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Henry and Frances
Jones and Lucy Mae Davis Jones and a sister, Alma Jean Jones. He is survived
by his wife, Ruth King Jones; two daughters and sons-in-law, Rachel and Terry
Holliday, Wytheville, Nola and Leon Humphrey, St. Augustine, Fla.; one son,
Gary Roland Jones, Charlottesville; three sisters, Mrs. Paul (Inis) Cox,
Pulaski, Mrs. Artis (Moyies) West, Torrance, Calif., Mrs. Arden (Ann) Huff,
Dugspur, Va.; one brother, John Addison Jones, Austinville; several nieces and
nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 17,
1993, at 2 p.m. at the Poplar Camp Church of God of Prophecy with the Rev.
Larry Barnes and the Rev. John Quesenberry officiating. Interment will follow
in the Bethany Cemetery with Grover King Post No. 1115, V. F. W. conducting
Graveside Military Rites. The body will be placed in the Church one hour
before service time. The family will receive friends at the Reese Funeral Home
from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday or at the residence at any time. Reese Funeral Home
in Austinville, Va. is in charge of the arrangements.
