In Radford, Dalton Intermediate School will celebrate National Education week, beginning with a proclamation that was signed in the city to make National Education Week official.
School Superintendent Michael Wright will swap places with a teacher and teach for a day at Dalton Intermediate, and students will become ``coaches for a day,'' helping school coaches at Belle Heth and McHarg schools. A special luncheon will be held at Dalton on Wednesday.
At Riverlawn Elementary School, there will be a week-long open house, in which parents may meet in discussion groups with teachers and faculty. The one- hour programs will be held today, Nov. 16 Wednesday, Nov. 17 and Thursday Nov. 18 at 10 each morning. The discussions will cover teaching responsibility, disciplining children and raising a happy child. Kay Six, prevention specialist, will lead the discussion groups. The PULASKI COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL PLAYERS will present a studio presentation of ``The Midway'' Saturday Nov. 20at 7 p.m. The production is a collection of scenes from One-Act plays about adolescence and includes some writings by theatre students and the director at Pulaski High. The students involved in this play have pledged to donate 20 percent of the $1 ticket price from each audience member to a new emergency youth shelter being formed in the county, and are challenging ticket holders to match the ticket price with another $1 donation to the shelter.

CHRIS BARRY, an eighth grader at Dalton Intermediate School in Radford, has been selected to perform at the Concert of Original Compositions for the Virginia Music Educators Conference in Norfolk on Saturday Nov. 20. Chris will perform his own composition of ``Sonata in G Major.''

Gilbert Linkous Elementary school is again this year participating in ``CHILDREN ARE READING EVERYWHERE,'' - CARE - a community-school reading program in which school faculty, staff and members of the community spend time reading to children in the area.
CARE is held every other Thursday at the University Village Trailer Park`s laundromat facility from 4 to 5 p.m. Kids can read books, listen as stories are read, play games, have a snack and work on arts or crafts projects. Six second graders from CHRISTIANSBURG PRIMARY SCHOOL recently had the chance to hold $20,000 in their hands - but only for an instant. The children toured Central Fidelity Bank to learn about money and how banks operate. The kids played the ``Money Game,'' in which they were encouraged to learn the faces on the various bills of money. This tour was one of several projects being sponsored by Central Fidelity Bank, which is sponsoring the school as a Partner in Education.
