SULLIVAN FINISHES 2ND IN GOLF TOURNAMENT

Chip Sullivan of Roanoke placed second in the opening event of the 17th annual Avon Grips/PGA Tournament series golf tournament in Palm City, Fla.

Sullivan finished the 36-hole event with a two-day total of 142, four strokes behind Bruce Zabriski of Garden City, N.Y.

Sullivan won $2,500 after shooting a one-over par 73 in Tuesday's round. He shot 69 in the first round.

Michelle Petrus of Roanoke won the half-marathon portion of the Ibigawa Marathon on Sunday in Ibigawa, Japan. Petrus' time was 1 hour, 19 minutes, 23 seconds.
