TEEN MAY FACE CAPITAL MURDER CHARGE

Wythe County authorities want to try 17-year-old Kenneth Davis as an adult on an attempted capital murder charge stemming from a Nov. 7 car chase.

Davis and Jody Garlick, 22, were arrested after their four-wheel-drive vehicle wrecked following a chase that started when an officer recognized Davis as being an escapee from a Christiansburg juvenile detention center. Police said that several times during the chase, a weapon was fired from the suspects' vehicle.

A juvenile cannot be charged with attempted capital murder. A hearing is to be scheduled in Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court to determine whether Davis will be tried as an adult.

There were no injuries from the gunfire, but at least one state police cruiser was hit by a rifle bullet.
