OBIT GARST, HAZEL B.
GARST, Hazel B., 81, of Radford, died Monday, November 15, 1993, at her
home. She was retired after 35 years of service to the Roanoke County
Department of Social Services as a staff member. She was also retired from the
City of Roanoke as a Youth Officer and was the first policewoman employed by
the City of Roanoke. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Jack L.
and Sarah M. Garst of Memphis, Tenn.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy L.
and James R. Nichols of Germantown, Tenn., Suzanne G. and Richard ("Jerry")
Glass of Radford, Va.; three sisters, Mrs. Eunice Bateman and husband, Willis
Bateman of Roanoke, Mrs. Evelyn Miles and husband, Jesse W. Miles of
Lynchburg, Mrs. Frances Lang of Phoenix, Ariz.; 13 grandchildren, David N.
Garst of Knoxville, Tenn., Ann A. Taylor of Memphis, Tenn., Helen W. ("Ginny")
Woods of Memphis, Tenn., Matthew W. Garst of Johnson City, Tenn., John B.
Garst of Memphis, Tenn., James R. Nichols Jr. of Memphis, Tenn., Timothy W.
Nichols of Memphis, Tenn., Howard B. Nichols of Korea, Shannon Nichols of
Memphis, Tenn., Jennifer G. Glass of Stony Creek, Conn., Anna E. Glass of
Arlington, Va., Nancy E. Glass of Baltimore, Md., Sarah H. Glass of Nagayi,
Jordan; also six great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be held
Thursday, November 18, 1993, at 2:30 p.m. from the Oakey's Downtown Chapel
with the Rev. Clarence Dishman and Will Robbins officiating. Interment will
follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Roanoke. The family will receive friends
Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. from the Oakey's Downtown Chapel. Local
arrangements are being handled by the DeVilbiss Funeral Home in Radford.
