NRCC RECOGNIZED FOR WORK AT MALL

New River Community College has received a certificate of recognition for its University Mall site.

The off-campus facility recently garnered one of 17 awards for quality and significant contributions to education in Virginia during the tenth annual Excellence in Education conference sponsored by the Virginia Tech College of Education.

The center enrolled 167 people during its first semester of operation last January.

That number rose to 265 during the current semester.

The mall site is an effort to increase access to higher education by offering classes closer to where students live, college officials said.
