VIRGINIA TECH SIGNS 2 FOR BASEBALL

Two high school pitchers from the state have signed baseball grant-in-aids with Virginia Tech.

Right-hander Kyle Marable of Chesterfield and left-hander Kevin Barker of Mendota signed with the Hokies during the early recruiting period.

Marable was 3-1 last spring as a junior at Clover Hill High School, posting a 2.16 earned run average in 42 innings. He also hit .294. Barker helped Virginia High in Bristol win the Group AA state title, compiling an 8-1 record and a 0.20 ERA. He also hit .270.

Jason Entlich of Virginia Tech was an honorable mention selection on the all-state soccer team. He led the Hokies in every offensive category this season, breaking the school record for most points in a season (37) and tying the Tech mark for most assists in a season. He holds the school record for most goals in a game (4) and most points in a game (8).

Heather Berglund of Virginia Tech was selected for the second team of the All-Metro Conference volleyball squad. It is the third year in a row the senior has made all-conference. Berglund led the Metro in digs with a 3.64 average. The Hokies (17-17) face UNC Charlotte in the first round of the conference tournament today in Louisville, Ky.

The Group AA Division 3 high school football playoff game between Radford and host Graham on Saturday will be aired by WRAD 1460 in Radford.
