The contract includes a 1 percent increase in wages; provision for overtime payments for[ ]workers in Columbus, Ga., who are called in to work beyond their normal shift schedule; and new restrictions in the amount of mandatory overtime employees can be required to work.
The union's collective bargaining agreement with the Kannapolis, N.C., company expired in April.
The union said there still are 160 unfair labor practice charges unsettled with Fieldcrest.
Ozzie Raines, vice president of human resources for Fieldcrest Cannon, said the charges relate to a back pay complaint for which the union sought $2.3 million and to a union representation election in 1991 in Kannapolis.
He also said the wage increase is a catch-up one to bring the union wages in line with others in the company.
Also at Fieldcrest, about half of the 400 salaried workers eligible for an early-retirement offer accepted it, Raines said. Raines said 185 employees will retire by Jan. 1 and most will not be replaced.
