INFANT INJURED WHEN TRAIN STRIKES CAR

A 10-month-old boy was slightly injured in Salem on Friday afternoon after a car driven by his mother was struck by a train.

Police Sgt. G.M. Reed said a car driven by Carol H. Deyerle, 41, of Roanoke was struck in the rear at a railroad crossing whose bells and lights were working.

The child, whose name was not available, was slightly injured by broken glass.

The car was spun around by the impact.

The train traveled a quarter of a mile before coming to a halt, Reed said.

The accident occurred as the Deyerle vehicle was turning from Fourth Street onto a side street near the entrance to Timber Truss Housing Systems, Reed said.
