LANCERS SHOCK WARRIORS

Laurel Park's Darrell Wilson kicked a 33-yard field goal with 15 seconds left Friday as the Lancers toppled the state's top-ranked Group AA team, Magna Vista, 15-14 in a Region III Division 3 high school football playoff game.

Magna Vista (10-1) had rallied from a 12-point halftime deficit to take a 14-12 lead when Evan Penn scored rushing touchdowns on consecutive carries. The second, a 37-yard burst in the third quarter, came on the first play after a Laurel Park turnover as the Warriors took a 14-12 lead.

Laurel Park (8-3) completed passes of 9, 12, 21 and 19 yards from Wilson to move to first-and-goal at the 8-yard line with 47 seconds left.

Wilson, however, was sacked for a 9-yard loss on second down and had to throw out of bounds to stop the clock on third down with 15 seconds left.

Wilson then booted the game-winner, and two desperation passes by Magna Vista fell incomplete.

Laurel Park will face Jefferson Forest next week in the Region III championship. Jefferson Forest beat Martinsville on Friday night.

DeShannon Adams rushed for 137 yards in the first half for Laurel Park as the Lancers took a 12-point lead.
