OBIT MEADE, EDWIN BAYLIES
MEADE, Edwin Baylies, 96, of Danville, died Friday, November 19, 1993, in
Roman Eagle Memorial Home. He was a prominent trial lawyer in Danville for
over 50 years. Mr. Meade was born in Danville on October 30, 1896, the only
son of Julian Meade and Bessie Edmunds Bouldin Meade. He and Madeline Read of
Middleboro, Mass. were married in 1923. She died in 1981. Mr. Meade was an
active member of the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany in Danville. Except
during his service as an Ensign in the U.S. Navy in World War I, Mr. Meade
spend his entire life in Danville. He received his B.A. and LL.B. from the
University of Virginia in 1920. He was a past member of the Danville Bar
Association, the Virginia Bar Association, the Virginia State Bar, and the
American Bar Association. He is survived by three children, Edwin Baylies
Meade Jr., Richmond, Frank Opie Meade, Danville, and Mrs. Elizabeth Meade
Hastings, Woodstock, Ga., as well as seven grandchildren. A graveside service
will be held at Green Hill Cemetery on Sunday, November 21, 1993, at 3:30
p.m., with the Rev. James Mathieson officiating. The family is at the
residence of Frank O. Meade, (169 Stratford Place, Danville). Townes Funeral
Home is handling the arrangements.
