The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lynwood C. Monroe, Sr., of Roanoke. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Rufus Higgins, Sr., of Chattanooga, Tenn.
A program of wedding music was performed by organist Sarah Holland, pianist Chuck Miller, and soloist Valerie Terry.
Escorted by her father, the bride wore a scalloped V-neck white satin gown re-embroidered with alencon lace and accented with sequins and pearls. The gown had tapered sleeves, a deep V back, and the fitted bodice and the bow in back were outlined with pearls. The gathered skirt had pearl and sequins embroidered in front over a lace hemline that fell into a full sweep cathedral train. Her headpiece was a crown of sequin and pearl leaves adorned with shooting crystal and pearl sprays with a waist length rolled edge fingertip veil. She carried a bouquet of white roses with lilies accented with magenta and teal lilies of the valley and ivy.
Miss Hermania Ferguson of Roanoke was the maid of honor. She wore a full length magenta gown with a lace bodice, deep V in the back. She carried a spray of white roses accented with baby's breath. Bridesmaids were Ms. Angela Hopson and Ms. Sonia King of Roanoke, friends of the bride; Ms. Tonya Monroe, Ms. Ronda Monroe, and Ms. Yvette Stuart of Roanoke, cousins of the bride; Ms. Felicia Monroe of Roanoke, niece of the bride. Their dresses were identical to the maid of honor. The flower girl was little Miss Destiny Hopkins of Roanoke, cousin of the bride.
Mr. Charlie Rufus Higgins, Sr., of Chattanooga, Tenn., served as his son's best man. Groomsmen were Mr. Lamar Wilcoxon of Chattanooga, Tenn., brother-in-law of the groom; Mr. Eric Lewis of Springfield, Md., friend of the groom; Mr. Greg Addison of Roanoke, friend of the bride; Mr. Lance Monroe and Mr. Lynwood C. Monroe, Jr., of Roanoke, brothers of the bride; Mr. Jessie Monroe of Roanoke, cousin of the bride. The ring bearer was Master Chance Smith of Roanoke. Ushers were Leonard Allen and John H. Allen, Jr., of Roanoke, uncles of the bride.
The reception was held at Holiday Inn, Airport. Following their honeymoon in Las Vegas, the couple will reside in Roanoke.
The bride and groom as well as their families would like to thank each and every person who helped make their wedding day a wondrous occasion. Some gifts were received without cards and at this time the bride and groom would like to express their gratitude for the generosity and kindness extended to them.
