OBIT MOORE, EMORY JEFFERSON
MOORE, Emory Jefferson, ("Tom"), 74, of Salem, died Thursday, November 18,
1993, at Lewis Gale Hospital. He was a retired supervisor after 38 years of
service with the Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone Co. of Virginia. He was also a
member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He was a member of the West Salem
Baptist Church and an Army veteran of World War II, where he proudly served in
the 41st Infantry Division in the South Pacific. Survivors include his wife,
Doris M. Moore, Salem; two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Bobbie
Moore, Manassas, Kenneth and Betty Moore, Blacksburg; grandchildren, Julie
Moore, Lancaster, Pa., Suzanne and Alan Moore, Blacksburg; three sisters,
Wilda Ayers and Ethel Vest, both of Salem, Iris Roop, Roanoke. Funeral
services will be held Monday, November 22, at 2 p.m. at the West Salem Baptist
Church, with the Rev. Michael L. Slaughter officiating. Burial will follow in
Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 5
p.m. at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer
Society or to the West Salem Baptist Church. John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home,
Salem is in charge of arrangements.
