USE OF ATM CARDS ON THE RISE

Nationwide, 8 billion teller-machine transactions are expected this year, up 59 percent since 1989, says a trade publication, Card Industry Directory. Point-of-sale transactions - sales at merchants conducted via teller-machine cards - are expected to reach 390.5 million, up 148 percent from 1989.
