OBIT PAGENHARDT, OLGA YELTON

PAGENHARDT, Olga Yelton, 85, of Roanoke, died Monday, November 22, 1993, in a Charlottesville Health Care Center. Born in Russell County, Va., she was a daughter of the late William Yelton and Ada Yelton Smith. She was a graduate of Radford College and received her Masters degree from Virginia Tech. Mrs. Pagenhardt began her teaching career in a one room school in Southwest Virginia. She later taught at Jamison Elementary and served as teacher and principle at Riverdale, Tinker Creek, and Washington Heights Elementary Schools in the Roanoke City School system. After her retirement from the school system she became active in Volunteer work in the Roanoke Valley. Her volunteer efforts were recognized by a former governor of Virginia. Mrs. Pagenhardt directed the Senior Citizens programs and gardens at Virginia Western Community College. She was a charter member of Grandin Court Baptist Church, where she served in various capacities and was a member of the Bethany Faith Sunday School Class. She was a life member and past treasurer of the Roanoke Branch of the American Association of University Women. Mrs. Pagenhardt was also a member of the Carrie Lee Chapter O.E.S., the Roanoke Museum of Art, the Roanoke Science Museum, and the Sister City Organization, Wonju, Korea. She was a charter silver member of the Shenandoah Valley Art Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Combs Pagenhardt; a sister, Margaret Miller and a brother, Paul Smith. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Leonita M. and Ronald W. Pharr, Waynesboro; grandson, Jeff S. Pharr and wife, Shelley, Orange; sisters, Esther Miller, Willits, Calif., Muriel Wilson, Hilo, Hawaii; a number of nieces and nephews. For those preferring to make memorial contributions the family suggests that memorials be made to Grandin Court Baptist Church. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday at Grandin Court Baptist Church by the Rev. Philip Motley, the Rev. Carol Johnston and the Rev. Robert Hamner. Interment will follow in Evergreen Burial Park. The family will receive friends 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Oakey's South Chapel.
