The Alleghany Highlands Economic Development Authority said it has received $17,500 for its Economic Development Foundation from Virginia Power, the electric utility division of Dominion Resources Inc. The Covington authority said Virginia Power also intends to help produce a promotional video next spring on the highland area.
Fralin & Waldron Inc., a Roanoke County developer, said it has begun development of Summerfield, a 35-unit residential community off U.S. 460 East at West Ruritan Road in North Roanoke County. The ranch-style and bi-level houses are priced at $99,500 to $140,000.
Budget Host Inn of Blacksburg, a 46-unit motel, has affiliated with Budget Host International of Arlington, Texas. The motel, at 3333 S. Main St., formerly was a HoJo Inn.
Mills, Oliver & Webb Inc., a Blacksburg firm of architects and engineers, has been cited in a statewide competition of school architecture by the Virginia School Boards Association. The firm's winning project was Sherando High School in Frederick County. Winning designs were displayed at this month's convention of the school boards association.
Leed's Music Centers, a Roanoke-based chain of music stores, has opened its fifth outlet in Blacksburg Square Shopping Center, 1305 S. Main St., Blacksburg. Don Clifton, former assistant manager at Leed's Oak Grove Plaza store, has been named manager of the new store. The company also said it will move its Lynchburg store in January to a larger building on Wards Road adjacent to a Kmart store.
