`PIECE OF ART' CALLED DEGRADING TO WOMEN

First of all, I must say that I have always had the utmost respect for the staff of the Roanoke Times & World-News for printing a family newspaper. That's why I was so shocked when I opened the Oct. 17 edition of Current and was exposed to the pornography that was displayed. This so-called "piece of art" was disgusting and degrading to any self-respecting woman. Why is it that women are always degraded in the media; are men exempt from degradation?

It is hard enough to rear our children to have self-respect in this Godless society. Some parents are so concerned that their children may be contaminated by something they eat or drink; believe me, a contaminated mind will bring more sorrow and pain to the family than a germ ever could.

I sincerely believe that your readership is stable enough that you don't have to resort to "sewer tactics." If anything, this is a good way to lose faithful readers. Come on, Roanoke Times, let's leave this trash to the smut magazines and stick with the dignity that you have earned as a family newspaper.\ Janie Cook Pulaski
