Princess Diana wants a reconciliation, but Prince Charles has promised his former girlfriend Camilla Parker Bowles that he will marry her one day, a gossip columnist said Saturday.
As the first anniversary of the royal separation approached, Nigel Dempster, who writes a gossip column for the tabloid Daily Mail, said Diana had wanted a divorce and remarriage, but has changed her mind.
"She wants a reconciliation, she wants to be with Charles, under the same roof, it is said," Dempster said on the television program "Who's Who."
"Only then does she believe that the future of the monarchy is safe," Dempster said.
"The queen and Prince Philip are desperate for Charles and Diana to be reconciled" for the sake of the monarchy and the young princes William and Harry. Dempster said Queen Elizabeth II has invited Diana to the royal estate at Sandringham in eastern England for Christmas.

Plans for the Beatles documentary, "The Long and Winding Road," were announced a year ago.
