EXPLORE TRIES TO GET A JUMP ON PLANNING FOR EARTH DAY

There's only 140 (or so) days left until Earth Day, so better start planning now.

Virginia's Explore Park is hosting a meeting on Monday for any individuals or organizations interested in helping to plan for Earth Day in the Roanoke Valley.

The meeting will be at 3 p.m., in the conference room at the Roanoke City Parks and Recreation building on Reserve Avenue.

Explore is coordinating a "teach-in" for April 23 (the Saturday after the official Earth Day) with booths set up by many groups to share information about solar energy, wildlife, recycling and many other diverse topics.

People interested in helping plan for the event are invited to Monday's meeting. Also, any group that will hold their own Earth Day activities but may be interested in coordinating with each other should come.

For more information, call Ginny Webb at Explore at 344-3190.
