BOONES MILL CRASH INJURES 3 PEOPLE

A head-on collision demolished both vehicles and injured three people Friday night.

Town police said Elton Henry Stanley, 80, of Route 1, Ferrum, was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital for evaluation. His wife, Pearl Cooper Stanley, 81, was taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital and was treated for back and neck injuries.

Another passenger in the vehicle, Iva Via, 72, of Henry, was flown to Roanoke Memorial Hospital. A hospital spokeswoman said Via had suffered head injuries which weren't considered life-threatening.

The driver of the second vehicle, Patrick Lynn Bowman, 26, was charged with driving under the influence, according to police. Bowman, of Route 3, Boones Mill, was not injured, police said.

The accident occurred at 7:45 p.m. on Scuffling Hill Road near the Furnace Creek Baptist Church.
